 John Juhasz Fantasy Football Chat(11/10/2009)
3:01
FOX Fantasy:
Hey everybody, it's once again John Juhasz time. John's here to answer any and all fantasy questions you may have going into this weekend's game. Get those questions flowing ASAP and we'll get going just as fast.
Tuesday November 10, 2009 3:01 Roger Rotter

3:02
John Juhasz:
Hey, kids. Hope you're not dead and buried halfway through the season like too many people I know. I have my DJ Aero tunes cranking in the background and am ready to rock for you guys. Let the games begin!
Tuesday November 10, 2009 3:02 John Juhasz

Fox Fantasy:
All right, let's start things off with George.........Hey John, who's better as a Flex option this week, Greg Jennings or Vernon Davis?
Tuesday November 10, 2009 3:03 Fox Fantasy
3:05
John Juhasz:

What's up, George? Thanks for stopping in today.I don't know what's happened to Jennings this year to tell you the truth. He was the clear-cut WR1 for the Pack last year, and Donald Driver has taken the role over completely. Now, Jennings is a 60 yard-per-game guy, and Vernon Davis will account for that by scoring just one touchdown. Go with Vernon. Alex Smith looks his way almost exclusively in the red zone, and his yardage usually isn't bad either.

Fox Fantasy:
Female chat time, and as always they go right to the top, as we go out to Christine..........I got really lucky and ended up with two great QBs in Tom Brady and Brett Favre. This week, Favre has the Lions and Brady has to go up against the Colts. Who do you start?
Tuesday November 10, 2009 3:07 Fox Fantasy
3:09
John Juhasz:
Ladies night in the chat room? I can dig it. Go with Favre. Without question. Indy's weakness on defense is against the run, not the pass. And the Lions defense hands out 300-yard, three-TD games to opposing quarterbacks like Halloween candy. My only concern is the Vikings will call off the dogs if the game has gotten out of hand, but Favre should throw for as many yards and scores as he likes.
Tuesday November 10, 2009 3:09 John Juhasz

Fox Fantasy:
Amit has a RB question........As a second RB, should I be starting Mike Bell or Marshawn Lynch this week?
Tuesday November 10, 2009 3:09 Fox Fantasy
3:11
John Juhasz:
Go with Bell. Even though he's going to be splitting carries, the Saints-Rams game will be must-see TV if you're a fan of lopsided blowouts. The Saints will probably race out to some kind of obscene lead, then run the ball to kill the clock in the second half. Bell should get plenty of touches, and I'm just not ready to trust Marshawn Lynch this year. Especially against a team which is much, much better than their record might indicate. Bell should have the better fantasy day between the two.

Fox Fantasy:
Todd has a question I think many of us would like to know the answer to.........Will T.J. Houshmandzadeh show up the rest of the year?!
Tuesday November 10, 2009 3:12 Fox Fantasy
3:13
John Juhasz:

Remember when Housh was moaning about his "low" rating in Madden heading into the season? I think he was ranked as the 6th best WR in the NFC, and it looks like that may have actually been far too generous. But to answer your question...

Tuesday November 10, 2009 3:13 John Juhasz
3:14
John Juhasz:
He's definitely not a WR1 this year. He's getting 30 yards or so on most weeks and needs a TD catch to even post a mediocre day. He's a borderline WR3, but the problem is I doubt you'll find substantially better options on the waiver wire. You may be stuck with him, but just keep this in the back of your mind for next year.

I'm assuming our next question is coming from Orange County, since his name is apparently O.C.........Who is the best WR to keep the rest of the season (I'm in trade mode) - Brandon Marshall, Greg Jennings, Dwayne Bowe or Steve Smith of the Panthers?
Tuesday November 10, 2009 3:16 Fox Fantasy
3:18
John Juhasz:
Of the bunch, I think Marshall is the best option. I was worried he'd take it a little too easy after langing the mega-deal he signed this past offseason, but the exact opposite has taken place. Why did I pick Marshall over the others? Well, I talked about Jennings above, I'm a little worried about Chris Chambers eating into Bowe's garbage time production, and Steve Smith is probably ready to fight Jake Delhomme to the death any day now.

Fox Fantasy:
Well, I guess this could be considered a ladies night candidate. Let's go to Chick, who has a RB question.........Good afternoon, John. In a PPR league, who do you think is the better option, Tim Hightower or Laurence Maroney? Thanks!!
Tuesday November 10, 2009 3:19 Fox Fantasy
3:20
John Juhasz:
Chick, huh? If not, you should be ashamed of yourself.
Tuesday November 10, 2009 3:20 John Juhasz
3:22
John Juhasz:
Go with Hightower. I'm more terrified of starting Patriots running backs in just about any league format than I am of everything else in life. You really never know what you're going to get on any given Sunday from Bill Belichick, but the Arizona backfield seems to have taken a shape: Beanie Wells is rushing the ball more while Hightower is Warner's primary option on screens.

Fox Fantasy:
There's nothing I love better than a well thought out kicker question! That's means Doug is up.........Hey John, I picked up Matt Stover when Adam Vinatieri got injured. Is it time to unload him?It seems like Vinatieri's ready to return based on reports.
Tuesday November 10, 2009 3:22 Fox Fantasy
3:24
John Juhasz:
This is somewhat hilarious and has to be a first. You can probably wait until Sunday morning and see if Vinny is supposed to be back. If he is, go ahead and pick him up. If not, grab someone off the waiver wire, and then replace him with Vinny the following week. A waiver wire fill-in kicker for onr week shouldn't make or break your season, and if it does, you can come to the Fox lot in LA and punch me in the stomach as hard as you like when the season is over.
Tuesday November 10, 2009 3:24 John Juhasz
3:25
Fox Fantasy:
Randy has a free agent query..........Who are your top RBs and WRs many of us would still find available on waiver wires right now?
Tuesday November 10, 2009 3:25 Fox Fantasy
3:27
John Juhasz:

You should definitely check out Mike Harmon's weekly waiver review articles for a more thorough explanation since my time is pretty limited here. But for a quick and dirty answer, one RB I've seen on some waiver wires is Cadillac Williams, and he shouldn't be there. Josh Freeman's passing will add a whole new dimension to that offense and open things up for Cadillac. He's a top-two RB in just about any league format again as far as I'm concerned.

Tuesday November 10, 2009 3:27 John Juhasz
3:28
John Juhasz:
As for as WR, check out Chris Chambers. Two of his three catches went for TDs last week, and while I hate picking up guys who have one good week out of nowhere, you could do a lot worse. Also, Mike Wallace is getting a lot more looks from Ben Roethlisberger in Pittsburgh, and Wallace has even scored more TDs than Santonio Holmes!
Tuesday November 10, 2009 3:28 John Juhasz
3:29
Fox Fantasy:
Steve from Utah is on the board.........I have Jonathan Stewart, Beanie Wells, Donald Brown and Julius Jones as backup RBs. Are any of them worth dropping for Darren McFadden right now?
Tuesday November 10, 2009 3:29 Fox Fantasy
3:31
John Juhasz:
Definitely not Stewart or Wells. Brown? Eh, maybe. Although I like his potential to break off long runs every now and then - he's like an AFC version of Felix Jones, right down to the injury issues. I'd take McFadden over Julius Jones, though. Seattle's offense is a bit of a mess right now. The final score against Detroit last week doesn't even begin to tell the story. Just watch and see what happens when they play a real defense.

Fox Fantasy:
Once again, we're up all night with the ladies on fantasy chat. Danielle chimed in and goes right to the top.........I have a lot of receivers, most of which are third tier. Which three do I play - Greg Jennings, Jeremy Maclin, Braylon Edwards, Dwayne Bowe, Malcom Floyd, Pierre Garcon or Andre Caldwell?
Tuesday November 10, 2009 3:32 Fox Fantasy
3:33
John Juhasz:
You're right. Those are kind of third-tier, and I ope you have stud QBs and RBs on your roster to compensate.
Tuesday November 10, 2009 3:33 John Juhasz
3:35
John Juhasz:
I'll work my way up from the bottom and answer your question via process of elimination. Maclin is out since, after his big game in McNabb's return, his disappearing act is on par with what we saw from DB Cooper a few decades ago. Caldwell gets important touchdowns, but the yardage is lacking, and Palmer seems to prefer Laveranues Coles as a WR2. Floyd is still too unproven for my liking, and the Colts have too many other options besides Garcon. Looks like that leaves you with Jennings, Edwards and Bowe. Not bad, but not great either.

John Juhasz:

Not sure, Ray. Do you have a ouija board we can consult? He was a late scratch last week, and you have to imagine that an extra few days off will do him some good and he'll be ready to go. There are two problems, though. First,  Westbrook probably couldn't make a phone call without picking up some kind of injury, so you'll need to wait until later in the week to find out his status. Secondly, the Eagles have a pretty tricky matchup in San Diego next week, so even if he plays, I'm not too sure I'd be wild about starting him.

Fox Fantasy:
Here's a WR question I have myself actually. Sean, you're up.......Would you start Brandon Marshall against a stingy Washington secondary or Mike Sims-Walker against the Jets?
Tuesday November 10, 2009 3:41 Fox Fantasy
3:44
John Juhasz:
Washington's problems stem from their crappy run defense. When teams run the ball on them successfully, that sets up their passing game. Problem is, Denver's running game has been in the toilet in recent weeks, and they're coming off a short week. Suddenly, it seems like they overachieved during their early unbeaten run. I'd go with Sims-Walker. He had an abysmal nine-yard game a couple weeks ago, but more often than not, he has produced well for his owners in recent weeks.

John Juhasz:
You know, I dissected this in my Week 9 takeaways column last week. Ryan Moats falls into a category of players who I call "strippers" since they live to do nothing but tease you. People shoved each other out of the way to get their hands on Shonn Greene after a big game, and he flopped the following week. It was the same story with Moats, and is the same story as a number of other players who I could rattle off from now until next Thursday. Moats is worth a spot on your bench and is a borderline flex play until he has at least one more decent game.
Tuesday November 10, 2009 3:48 John Juhasz
3:49
John Juhasz:

As far as Chambers, yes. You should be worried, but not to the point where you rush out to pick him up. The Chiefs will find themselves down by a good margin of points almost every week from here on out. Cassel will be throwing a lot during garbage time, and you'll just have to hope Bowe continues his knack for scoring there. He didn't in J-Ville, but will at some point this year.

Fox Fantasy:
Fred needs trade help........Hey John, please help. Those punks over at ESPN don't seem to want to. I'm trying to deal for Maurice Jones-Drew, but I need to decide between either Darren McFadden or Fred Jackson, as well as Steve Breaston or Austin Collie. What two should I go after. The trade deadline is nearing FAST!!

Fred, I'll answer your question as long as you tell everyone how rad and caring the Fox Fantasy staff is. Deal?

John Juhasz:
Hang on a sec, I'm not sure I understand what you're asking. You're trying to trade either McFadden/Jackson and Breason/Collie for MJD? If the owner in your league is willing to accept it, tell him there will be room in my big money league for him next year. Your best option would be offering Jackson and Collie, but I'd be prepared to give up McFadden and Breaston for MJD in a New York minute. You really can't go wrong with any of those trades. Drop me a line and let me know how it works out.

Fox Fantasy:

Jenna continues our female chat day.......Do you think I should trade Brandon Jacobs at this point? Does he have a chance to rebound the rest of the way?

Tuesday November 10, 2009 3:55 Fox Fantasy
3:57
John Juhasz:

Trade him? Sure. For what, though? No other owner in your league is going to get terribly riled up about the chance to grab a guy who has only two touchdowns and zero 100-yard games on the ground this year. It's a great chance to buy low on a first-round pick, but his entire first half of the season has been a bust. I'm prepared to throw in the towel on him and accept a WR2 in return.

Tuesday November 10, 2009 3:57 John Juhasz
3:58
Fox Fantasy:
And with our last question of the day, we wrap up our unofficial female chat afternoon with Ariana........Hey John, with Matt Schaub on a bye, do I go with Josh Freeman or Matt Cassel this week? Alex Smith may be an option too. What are your thoughts?
Tuesday November 10, 2009 3:58 Fox Fantasy
4:02
John Juhasz:
Yeah, Matt Schaub on a bye does kind of suck, doesn't it? How can  he not be considered a  serious MVP candidate, which is one of the weirdest things I've ever written in my life. Anyhow, I really don't think you can go wrong with either option, but I think I have to give Freeman a slight nod here. The Fins pass defense ranks among the worst in the league, and Freeman is basically a real-life version of Willie Beamen - a QB who comes out of nowhere to start posting big numbers. The Fins don't have a lot of film of him to gameplan with, and I think he's going to look a little more poised and comfortable in his second start. 300 yards may be asking a bit much, but a strong multi-TD game certainly isn't out of the question.
