Fantasy fallout: Sunday's early games
Second half
• Cassel threw for just 131 yards, one touchdown and an interception and has a Week 4 bye to regroup. He faces San Francisco in Week 5 but needs to make much progress before he is worth starting. Wes Welker was respectable in reception leagues with six catches for 55 yards, but Moss had just four catches for 25 yards.
• Santana Moss scored for the second straight game, recording seven catches for 75 yards. Jason Campbell had his first multiple passing game of the season. The schedule is tougher for the next two games: Washington travels to Dallas and Philadelphia in the next two games. Moss is worth starting against Dallas: he had nine catches for 121 yards and a score in the Week 11 meeting and eight receptions for 115 yards and a score in the Week 17 meeting last season.
• Looking for a sleeper receiver lurking on the waiver wire? Brandon Lloyd is emerging as Chicago's top wide receiver. After leading Chicago with five catches for 66 yards in Week 2, Lloyd became Chicago's first wide receiver to catch a touchdown pass this season. He tops all Chicago wideouts with five catches for 100 yards. He also added a two-point conversion.
• Matt Forte is making an early bid to be the Rookie of the Year. He's totaled 100-plus yards and one touchdown against a tough Tampa Bay defense, marking the third straight game of at least 100 total yards.
• Larry Johnson showed why he remains a weekly start. He's rushed for 100-plus yards and a score against Atlanta.
• Ooops! Sorry if I told you to bench Ronnie Brown. He's scored four touchdowns and has thrown for one score. I guess we can book Miami for the Super Bowl now and expect Brown to set the NFL record for touchdowns in a season.
• Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald showed why they are weekly starts. Boldin caught his fourth touchdown of the season while Fitzgerald caught a 62-yard touchdown pass to record seven catches for 109 yards through three quarters.
First half
• Peterson had an unspectacular first half, running for 36 yards on nine carries for a 4.0 average. Chester Taylor carried just once for 10 yards and added two receptions for 19 yards; he's still taking a secondary role despite Peterson's hamstring injury.
• Inexperienced quarterback Tyler Thigpen accounted for 85 of Dwayne Bowe's 90 yards last week. Making his first NFL start, Thigpen kept Bowe's fantasy value intact for the second straight week. He threw a touchdown pass to Bowe for the receiver's second of the season.
• In the surprise of the day so far, Brown has scored three touchdowns against New England! Miami has a Week 4 bye before facing San Diego at home in Week 5.
• Turner scored his second touchdown of the day and has four scores on the season. He's a strong candidate to be a top-five fantasy back this season. However, his true value will be revealed when Atlanta faces four tough opponents next: at Carolina, at Green Bay, vs. Chicago and at Philadelphia after a Week 7 bye. Turner ran for just 42 yards against Tampa Bay in Week 2.
• LenDale White scored his second touchdown of the day and has four already for the season. Even just as a goal-line back, White is a viable fantasy starter, especially as a No. 3 fantasy back.
• Steve Slaton scored his first NFL touchdown and already has rushed for 61 yards on five carries.
• Marshawn Lynch has scored in each of the first three games after running for a 14-yard touchdown. He has a solid chance to be a top-five fantasy back this season with Buffalo's offensive resurgence.
• Jonathan Stewart scored his third touchdown of the season and clearly is the better fantasy back than DeAngelo Williams with his goal-line duties at this point. Steve Smith already has three catches for 60 yards midway through the second quarter.
• Chris Perry scored on a 25-yard run and already has 52 yards on just seven carries for a 7.2 average.
• Brown scored his second touchdown of the game and third of the season. If Miami remains inspired in future games, Brown could be a valuable fantasy starter.
• Ricky Williams' fantasy value will take a nosedive. Brown started and is Miami's featured back. He scored his second touchdown of the season.
• Atlanta has produced two big plays from its most talented players, Turner and Roddy White. Turner ran for a 38-yard gain and scored his third touchdown of the season on a 4-yard run. White caught a 70-yard reception for his first touchdown of the season. Start all Denver and Carolina players in the next two weeks; the Broncos visit the Chiefs in Week 4 and Carolina hosts Kansas City in Week 5. If Oakland can post 23 points on Kansas City, imagine what Denver and Carolina can accomplish.
• With Joey Galloway out for Week 3, Tampa Bay wide receiver and sleeper Ike Hilliard scored on a 4-yard touchdown reception.
• Making his first NFL start, Houston rookie Slaton is a nice sleeper for future weeks. He broke free for a 50-yard run, showing the speed to make the big play. With Ahman Green battling knee injuries for the past several years, Slaton could be Houston's featured back as long as he can withstand the rushing load.
