After Leon Washington played a role in the Jets rushing the ball for roughly 17.5 miles worth of yardage on the Bills in Week 6, I advised you not to pick him up. A projected season-ending injury the following week wasn't exactly the reason behind my suggestion, but the Jets have placed Washington on injured reserve just a day after he ran the ball one time for six yards in Oakland. He suffered a pretty gruesome injury to his right fibula, and I could only stomach watching the replay of it one time. He already had successful surgery on Monday morning and is expected to make a full recovery eventually, but you're more concerned about what to do with your roster right now. Washington had 72 carries for 331 yards (and no scores, either rushing or receiving) before his season came to an end. What you should do if you owned him is lie, cheat, steal and whatever else it takes in order to stampede to your waiver wire and grab Shonn Greene before anyone else in your league does. Washington was more of a factor on special teams than he was in the backfield, but Greene, the rookie from Iowa, was sensational against the Raiders in relief of Washington, rushing for 144 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries. And he's going to continue getting the ball often this season for these very simple reasons: 1, 0, 1, 2, 0, 5. No, those aren't last night's Powerball numbers, but rather Mark Sanchez's game-by-game interception totals going into Week 7. After Sanchez essentially cost the Jets a win against the Bills in Week 6, Jets coach Rex Ryan did everything short of installing a Bear Bryant-like wishbone offense before taking the field against Oakland. Sanchez attempted just 15 passes, which was by far his lowest total of the season. Ryan is probably not prepared to let the rookie quarterback throw the ball up for grabs again this year, so he's going to rely very heavily on Greene and Thomas Jones to move the ball for him on offense. Greene is more of a traditional RB1 than Washington ever was, and even though the rest of New York's opponents probably won't be quite as accomodating as the Raiders were, he basically has RB1 value going forward. It really isn't often that you'll be able to find a running back on your league's waiver wire with the potential to be as productive as Greene, but you need to grab him if you have the chance. Like, right now. Your next click away from this page should be straight to your league's waiver wire to see if he's there.
