Fantasy Fan Mail: Week 11
Lisa: Better trade value: Lance Moore or Malcolm Floyd?
Better value? Moore. Better player? Floyd. Thanks to sustained success from the Saints, Moore has performed on a national platform plenty of times over the past five years, and, as a corollary, has better name recognition than Floyd. However, the San Diego receiver gets our nod as the pick for the rest of the season, as the emergence of Danario Alexander has alleviated some of the adversarial focus on Floyd in the passing game. Floyd also has an easier second-half schedule, with dates versus credulous secondaries in Baltimore, Cincinnati, Carolina and Oakland, whereas Moore and New Orleans face formidable foes in the 49ers, Falcons, Giants and Cowboys (albeit with respites against the aforementioned Panthers and Raiders). Dangle Moore for, ahem, “more” trade value in the assurance that Floyd is the smarter asset.
@SethYoung2: Flex spot – BenJarvus Green-Ellis or Danny Amendola? Standard league.
Despite the absence of Revis Island, the New York Jets have been resolute against opposing air attacks, holding challengers to the second-fewest fantasy points to wide receivers, theoretically curbing Amendola’s ceiling for Week 11. However, the league’s top pass resistance, San Francisco, failed to suppress the PPR god in his return from a shoulder injury last week, as Amendola hauled in 11 receptions for 102 yards, so don’t let the Gang Green defense deter you from implanting the Rams receiver. Moreover, since Week 3, the Law Firm has been garbage, averaging a scant 53 yards per game in his last seven outings. Though he’s not as valuable in standard formats as PPR leagues, go with Amendola.
Pip: Flacco or RG III for QB and A. Hernandez or O. Daniels for TE
On the surface, this inquiry may seem ridiculous, as Griffin III enters the weekend with the fourth-most quarterback fantasy points in standard formats while Flacco is, well, Flacco. Yet the Washington rookie has hit a wall as of late, doing little of consequence in his team’s past three contests, while Flacco is coming off a career performance, albeit against Oakland. Nevertheless, Flacco and the Ravens are facing a Steelers squad this is smothering opponents to a league-low 171.1 passing yards per game. Griffin III has no walk through the park either versus Philadelphia, yet roll with the Redskins quarterback this weekend.
As for tight ends, both Hernandez and Daniels are battered and bruised, but go with Daniels, as Houston’s Week 11 antagonist, Jacksonville, has struggled to contain tight ends in 2012.
Cameron: Can I get some validation on a trade I just made? Gave up Heath Miller to get Larry Fitzgerald. Did I get caught up in name value or will Larry be reliable ROS?
In August, that trade would have caused a firestorm on your league message board, at least one person would have dropped out and probably a fight would have gone down. However, heading into Week 11? Pretty fair deal. Miller has been lights-out under Todd Haley’s new up-tempo attack; alas, his worth could be encumbered by a prolonged tour of duty from Byron Leftwich. While this seemingly tilts the scales in Fitzgerald’s favor, Arizona has an arduous schedule down the fantasy home stretch, with the Falcons, Jets, Seahawks, Bears and Niners all on tap. The All-Pro receiver has the higher ceiling, but Miller’s consistency makes this an even barter.
Aziz Ansari: Joel = Swagger Fresh
We get a ton of faux-celebrity handles in our Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday chats, but as he’s the Bill Murray of our generation (at least in the sense of connection with the general public), I mean, there is a chance this could be Aziz, right? Granted, it’s like a 0.00005 probability, but given that’s the same likelihood of me securing a girl’s digits on the weekend, I’ll take it.
Mr. Wolff: Is CJ Spiller worth trading for? I really need a RB.
Sorry, Mr. Wolff, Spiller owners are infatuated with the Buffalo back, meaning you’ll need a king’s ransom to secure his services. In truth, not that crazy about his prospects for the rest of the season, as Fred Jackson should return in a week or two. I know the split system hasn’t held Spiller back, but the majority of his conquests this season have been with Jackson on the sidelines. Given his current market value, I’d stay away from Spiller.
@JessnGin: McFadden and F.Jackson hurt. Alex green or James Starks for GB?
Neither. Green Bay running backs are like the TV series Lost: you keep waiting for something to happen, but nothing ever does. Also, anyone who invested in these entities ends up extremely disappointed. By the way, how can you have the handle “@JessnGin” instead of going “GinNJess?” I know it’s 2012, but c’mon, Snoop is still relevant, right?
OBarron: Pierre Garcon or Greg Jennings worth holding onto for playoffs?
Seems like this is the fifth consecutive week I’ve received this question in some form. Garcon should be back this weekend, and though I’m not big on his forecast for this weekend, he should be able to deliver dividends come December. In Jennings’ case, dude is going to be a free agent this offseason, so you know he wants to show off his skills before the playoffs. Even if the Packers have a postseason berth wrapped up, expect Jennings to see time to get assimilated back into the offense.
