Week 6 football survivor picks

Survive and advance is a popular sports mantra normally saved for the month of March and the madness that comes with it.

But thanks to the rapid growth of the NFL and fantasy football, games like FOX Fantasy Survivor can feed your craving for “win or go home” competition seven months early.

Thousands of football fans signed up and participated in the FOX Fantasy Survivor game last season. The hope is, with cash prizes on the line, we can eclipse that mark in 2012.

The premise is simple: pick one (1) team who you believe is going to win that week. The survivor catch remains that once you pick a team to win, you can’t pick that team again for the rest of the season.  The good news is, even if you lose, you are still eligible to win cash prizes.

To assist you with your survivor selections, the FOXSports.com’s fantasy football staff will provide you their picks for the week.

Just remember the mantra: survive and advance. In three months, you could be $2,000 richer.

Week 5 Recap

Fowler  - Bears (Thank goodness for the Chicago Bears defense or Jay Cutler and his offensive line would still be the main headline in the Windy City.  After getting smoked by Green Bay, the Bears have won three straight in convincing fashion.)

Beall - Niners (Another successful survivor pick, another top tier defense to thank for the win.  San Francisco is mowing down the opposition, but let's also applaud the play of Alex Smith and his bacfield that is first in the NFL in rushing.)

Harmon - Packers (Any given Sunday.  Andrew Luck's rush to pick up the first down in the games final seconds is what places them up on a pedestal.)

Halpin - Giants (For some reason, I don't believe Halpin was nervous when the Browns opened up an early 14-0 lead.  Two-hundred rushing yards by Ahmad Bradshaw and three touchdown receptions by Victor Cruz later, the sweat on his brow had evaporated.)

Week 6 Picks

Fowler, Beall and Harmon - Falcons over Raiders

Oakland's defense has allowed over 31 points, 128 rush yards and 283 pass yards per game this season.  Matt Ryan and the Falcons average better than 29 points and 281 pass yards (against teams not named Oakland) per game.  The Falcons also lead the league in turnover margin at +10 with the Raiders failing to pick off a pass yet this season.  It has all the makings of a one-sided affair.  Then again, so did New England hosting Arizona.

Halpin - Steelers over Titans

Fun Fact: The Steelers are 7-1 in their last eight Thursday night games.  Tennessee is a mess on both sides of the ball in 2012.  Chris Johnson isn't happy and/or effective (team 30th in rushing).  Jake Locker (shoulder) has passed the baton back to Matt Hasselbeck at quarterback.  The Titans' defense as a whole is one of the worst in the NFL (25th vs the pass, 28th vs the rush).  Big Ben could have a field day on the short week.  One thing to note, the Steelers defense remains banged up as their age is catching up with them.
