Week 8 survivor picks
Survive and advance is a popular sports mantra normally saved for the month of March and the madness that comes with it.
But thanks to the rapid growth of the NFL and fantasy football, games like FOX Fantasy Survivor can feed your craving for “win or go home” competition seven months early.
Thousands of football fans signed up and participated in the FOX Fantasy Survivor game last season. The hope is, with cash prizes on the line, we can eclipse that mark in 2012.
The premise is simple: pick one (1) team who you believe is going to win that week. The survivor catch remains that once you pick a team to win, you can’t pick that team again for the rest of the season. The good news is, even if you lose, you are still eligible to win cash prizes.
To assist you with your survivor selections, the FOXSports.com’s fantasy football staff will provide you their picks for the week.
Just remember the mantra: survive and advance. In three months, you could be $2,000 richer.
Week 7 Recap
Fowler - Packers (Like Stella, Aaron Rodgers is getting his groove back. Nearly 700 passing yards, nine touchdowns and NO interceptions his last two games all without Greg Jennings. He's adapting to his surroundings.)
Halpin - 49ers (Thursday night road teams are struggling with the short week. As expected it was a battle between two of the league's top defenses, but Frank Gore continues to brush his haters off with another stellar performance. He racked up 182 total yards against the Seahawks, leading the 49ers in rushing and receiving that night.)
Harmon - Vikings (Minnesota emerges as the most unlikely of 5-2 teams. However, when Adrian Peterson breaks out for an ADP-style performance (153 rushing yards), the Vikings are going to be at their best with a top-tier defense unchallenged by John Skelton (yet, puzzled by LaRod Stephens-Howling).
Week 8 Picks
Fowler - Giants over Cowboys
Dallas is falling apart on offense and defense. It's looks unlikely that Demarco Murray plays this week, Felix Jones should with a bruised knee and leading tackler Sean Lee was just placed on IR with, of all things, a toe injury. Tony Romo still needs one more touchdown pass to break even with his interception total on the season (nine). Eli Manning continues to find ways to win close ball games as was evident in Week 7 and if history tells us anything, the Cowboys and G-men should come down to the wire.
Halpin and Beall - Packers over Jaguars
When you are basically a one-dimensional offense, it's tough to compete, let alone win, when you lose that one dimension. Jacksonville will be without Maurice Jones-Drew (foot) in Week 8 and the team could also be without the services of Blaine Gabbert (non-throwing shoulder). Although Green Bay lost Charles Woodson for the next six weeks (collarbone), the offense is clicking on all cyclinders and should be able to shred a defense allowing more than 27 points per game.
Carolina's offense is reeling with no clear solution in sight. Meanwhile, Chicago's defense is pounding their opponents into submission. Da Bears defense is holding opposing offenses to a league-low 13 points per game. Cam Newton and the Panthers could be in big trouble if the rushing attack doesn't break out of a recent funk.
