Signing up to play FOX Fantasy Football is quick, painless, and best of all, free. All you need is a valid email address to create your free Windows Live (MSN Passport) account and you can begin to create your Fantasy team.
How do I get a Windows Live account?
Getting your Windows Live account requires only a valid email address and password. To begin, visit the Windows Live Sign In page and click the "Sign up for an account" button. Once there, you will be asked to provide either an existing email, or to create a new address. After inputting your email information, you will create your password and then be asked to accept the Windows Live Network Terms of Use and Windows Live Network Privacy Statement.
Upon doing so you will be taken immediately to register with FOXSports.com, where you will fill out the pertinent information allowing you to use our FOX Fantasy Baseball site. Now, whenever you're ready you can just sign in and you're one step closer to joining or creating a Fantasy Football team.
Joining a league takes just a few quick steps and you're off and running. First, sign in and proceed to the FOX Fantasy Football Front Page. From there select the "Join a League" button, which will take you to the Join a League page.
On the Join a League page you are given three choices of league types to join; Private, Published, and Public. Here are the differences:
Private League: To join a private league you have to be invited by the league commissioner. The Commish should provide you with a league ID and password for you to join the league. Private leagues are not open to the public but can be created by anyone who wishes to compete against friends, family, or coworkers.
Published League: Published leagues are Private leagues that have been made public to fill open slots. This is great for the Fantasy Football participant who wants customized scoring not offered in Public leagues.
Public League: A great option for both new and veteran Fantasy Football players, public leagues use the default league configuration (scoring, league rules, roster settings, etc.) set by FOX Sports. Selecting this option automatically places you in a public league with your choice of draft type: live or automated.
Once you have selected a league type, you will be prompted to create your team. After filling out your team name, team abbreviation, and choosing your email preferences, click the continue button and you're ready to begin preparing for the draft! NOTE: If you have chosen to join a public league you will be prompted to select the time and date of your draft.
How do I delete my public league team?
If you wish to delete your public league team and start over, just sign in and go to the FOX Fantasy Football Home page: http://msn.foxsports.com/fantasy/football/commissioner. Under the Teams and Leagues section, click the Manage My Teams link below your team/league names. Now you will be given the opportunity to delete any team that you have created. Just pick the team you want and you will have your team deleted. NOTE: Once you have deleted a team there is no way to retrieve it. NOTE: Once your public league has drafted it has officially begun its season, and you will no longer be able to remove your team from that public league.
How do I create a league?
After creating or signing into an existing Windows Live account, the next step is to create a league. To do so, simply sign in to FOXSports.com and proceed to the FOX Fantasy Football Front Page. From here select the button marked Create a League.
On the "Create a League" page, you can begin to enter your league's information.
During the season, teams will compete using a Head to Head scoring system.
Head-to-Head: In Head-To-Head leagues, each team will play against one other team each week to see who can compile the best stats across all of the stat categories and the best accumulated total score to win the week.
If you chose to customize your league's settings, you'll first choose which type of draft you'd like: Live, Autopick, or Offline.
What is the difference between a Live, Automated, and Offline draft?
Live Draft: The live online draft is one of the best parts of the Fantasy Football season. Just like a real draft, your fantasy draft pits you against the other team owners in your league in a live Football draft situation. You and the other members of your league join your Live Online Draft Room application at the specified time (chosen during league creation), and make your picks in real-time. The Online Draft Room keeps track of the time for each pick, each team's roster, and which team is currently on the clock. In the event that one or more owners cannot make your scheduled Live Draft Time, their picks will be made automatically by the computer based on those owners' pre-draft player rankings
How Live Drafts Work:
Once the draft begins, the Owner with the first pick in the draft will be on the clock. The Owner must draft a player before the allotted time runs out. Once a player is drafted the Owner who picks next is on the clock. The draft order follows a ladder or "snake" order of drafting. In a 12 team league the first round order would be Team 1, Team 2, Team 3…etc. In the second round, the order would reverse and would be Team 12, Team 11, Team 10…etc.
As the draft progresses you will be able to see each team in your league fill out its roster. Feel free to offer up your opinion of draft selections in the chat room within the Live Draft application.
Automated Draft: In an Automated draft the drafting is handled for you by the FOX Sports automated draft process. All picks for each team in the league are made by the computer based on each team's pre-draft player rankings. The order behaves just like a live draft (see above) with the computer drafting a player for one team and then drafting a player for the next team based on the remaining players. If you select an Automated draft be sure to set your player rankings so you have a better chance of getting the players you want.
Offline Draft: If you're able to get everyone in your league together in person for your draft, an Offline Draft is the best way to draft. Nothing is better than calling your friends' poor draft selection to their face. During an offline draft your league Commissioner keeps track of the players drafted to each team. After the draft is complete, the Commissioner enters the results into the game using the Offline Draft Tools.
After the draft page, you're taken to the League Rules page where you can adjust the rules that will govern your league. Settings include General rules, Add/Drop rules, Trade rules, and Minimum/Maximum scoring requirements.
Next you will move onto the Roster Settings page. Here you can edit how many players you would like in each starting position as well as designate any flex/utility positions you'd like to use. Keep in mind that there is a maximum of 30 roster slots allowed per team. You can also set the number of bench and disable list slots you'd like your league to use.
From there you will be taken to the scoring settings page and can select which statistical categories your league will use. You will also select the numerical values for each stat category your league uses. Beneath the offense scoring section and the defense scoring section, there are links to show the advanced, more obscure, statistical categories for each.
The final page is a confirmation of the league creation and a review of the settings you've chosen for your league. Here you can make any changes to these settings by clicking "Edit" next to each section. When you are ready to start your season, simply click "Continue," and you'll be taken to your league home page. Now you can begin to invite owners using the Invite Owner feature in your Commish tools.
