Heat Check: No Wade? No problem just yet
NOV 20, 2013 8:37p ET
LeBron James had 21 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds in 29 minutes to lead Miami to a 120-92 road victory against the Orlando Magic on Wednesday.
James Jones took Wade's spot in the starting lineup and scored 17 points. He hit 5 of 7 from 3-point territory.
Chris Bosh overcame early foul trouble to finish with 18 points in 24 minutes as Miami won its fifth straight and for the eighth time in nine games.
The Heat (9-3) scored the game's first 16 points, but Orlando fought back to go ahead in the second quarter. Miami then grabbed control in the third quarter.
The Heat reserves, who have played well of late, outscored their Orlando counterparts 49-14. Michael Beasley (14 points) and Chris Andersen (10 points, 5 rebounds) led the Miami subs.
Jones' performance was noteworthy, but Wade's status will have people wondering what's up. The 11-year veteran did not play in a home win against Atlanta on Tuesday night.
If Wade missed a second straight game for precautionary reasons, then it shows the guard and the Heat are smart and focused on the big picture.
If Wade really is hurting, then there should be concern. After all, he endured knee injuries the past two seasons.
The turning point
Heat opened the second half with 9-2 run to build 63-51 lead. They then scored 9 straight points to open an 84-64 lead with 1:50 left in the period.
The difference maker
James Jones. He scored 14 points in the third quarter, when his four 3-pointers helped Miami take control.
Stat of the game
The Heat hit 15 of 24 (62.5 percent) from behind the arc. Seven different Miami players hit from long distance.
The Heat host to the Orlando Magic at American Airlines Arena 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
