Shane Larkin breaks ankle, out 8-12 weeks for Mavericks

Larkin was selected by the Atlanta Hawks with the 18th overall pick in last month's NBA Draft and was traded to Dallas on draft night. At the time of the injury, he was practicing with the Mavericks summer league team that begins play Saturday in Las Vegas.
"It was a freak thing," Larkin's agent, Happy Walters, said on the phone Friday night. "It happened when he went up to dunk, it wasn't even when he landed."
Walters said he had spoken to his client who, "was bummed, but he was positive -- Shane's always positive."
Larkin, 20, entered the draft after two seasons at Miami. As a sophomore last season he averaged 14.5 points, 4.6 assists and 3.8 rebounds while leading the Hurricanes to the Atlantic Coast Conference regular-season and tournament titles and the NCAA tournament Sweet 16.
Larkin confirmed the broken ankle on Twitter.
Yes it is true. But if you think I won’t come back stronger then before then you got the wrong guy. #GoMavs— Shane Larkin (@ShaneLarkin) July 12, 2013
