Bayern Munich failed to regain top spot in the Bundesliga and only Ivica Olic spared them from sliding to defeat at Hamburg in a 1-1 draw.
Jacopo Sala's first Bundesliga goal put Hamburg in front in the 23rd minute, but former Hamburg striker Olic levelled with less than 20 minutes remaining.
Both sides missed chances in an open game which ended fairly with a point each.
Bayern now trail the new league leaders Borussia Dortmund by two points while Hamburg move up to 11th.
Hamburg made an all-action start to the game with Heiko Westermann's header from a corner headed off the line by Toni Kroos.
The first threat to Jaroslav Drobny's goal came in the 13th minute when he had to be at full stretch to push Franck Ribery's 20-yard effort wide.
From the consequent corner, Westermann headed the ball into his own goal, but it did not count as the referee saw a nudge in the Hamburg defender's back from Mario Gomez.
Five minutes later, Gomez lifted his shot over the crossbar as the visitors started to take control of the game.
However, Hamburg hit them on the break with the opening goal in the 23rd minute.
Former Bayern striker Jose Paolo Guerrero spotted Sala in space in the right side of the penalty area and sent the ball over for the Italian to volley in off the inside of the far post.
Bayern responded with Arjen Robben forcing another fine save out of an increasingly busy Drobny.
Drobny made a save to deny Ribery in the 66th minute as Hamburg started to spend more and more time in their own half of the field.
Bayern increased the pressure, with Olic making his entrance in place of Kroos to provide them with a further attacker.
There were a few cheers from the home fans when Olic made his entrance, but the former hero of the Hamburg terraces soon turned villain as he brought Bayern level in the 71st minute.
Heung Min Son's attempted clearance from a corner struck Thomas Muller, who squared the ball for Olic to score from close range.
Both sides had chances to win it but had to settle for a draw at the HSV-Arena.
