Player revived on field after collision
A French player went into cardiac arrest during a third division match in Germany and had to be revived on the field, according to several reports.
According to German newspaper Bild, Preussen Munster defender Clement Halet collapsed on the pitch after a hard collission with Holstein Kiel's Fiete Sykora that left Halet lying unconscious eight minutes before the end of the match. Preussen teammates Benjamin Siegert and Dominik Schmidt promptly administered chest compressions on the 28-year-old defender and helped revive him along with paramedics.
"Football moves into the background in situations like this," Preussen manager Pavel Dotchev said after his team lost the match 3-0. "This was a dark Saturday for us in every way."
Halet was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where he will spend the next five days under observation. Halet's vital signs returned to normal added the German newspaper.
The former Fortuna Düsseldorf player signed with Preussen Munster in 2011. Halet fathered his first child in May.
