US defender Parkhurst joins Augsburg
AUGSBURG, Germany (AP)
Augsburg has signed U.S. defender Michael Parkhurst from Danish side FC Nordsjaelland on a free transfer.
The Bundesliga club says in a statement that the 28-year-old Parkhurst has agreed to a deal effective from January 2013 until June 2015, irrespective of top-flight football.
Parkhurst was quoted as saying: "I want to play my part so we achieve our aim of survival in the second half of the season. I saw the German Cup game against Bayern Munich yesterday . and was impressed with the brilliant atmosphere despite the (2-0) loss."
Parkhurst has made 15 appearances for the U.S.
Only goal difference separates Augsburg from bottom side Greuther Fuerth at the Bundesliga's halfway stage in the season. Both sides are 10 points from safety.
