Bayer stuns Sociedad with late winner
LEVERKUSEN, Germany (AP)
Jens Hegeler scored with a free kick in the second minute of injury time to give Bayer Leverkusen a 2-1 victory over Real Sociedad in the Champions League match on Wednesday.
Simon Rolfes scored for Leverkusen in injury time of the first half. Carlos Vela equalized in the 51st, knocking in the rebound after his penalty had been parried by Leverkusen's goalkeeper Bernd Leno.
The victory revived Leverkusen's campaign after its opening 4-2 loss at Manchester United.
United drew 1-1 at Shakhtar Donetsk in the other Group A match on Wednesday. Both teams have four points, while Leverkusen is third with three. Real Sociedad is bottom of the group with two losses.
