Leicester manager Sven-Goran Eriksson will offer David Beckham the chance to play his way back into English soccer with the Championship club before the 2012 Olympic Games -- with the additional incentive of an immediate coaching role, The (London) Times reported Tuesday.
The LA Galaxy midfielder, whose contract in the United States ends later this year, is targeting a place in the Great Britain squad for the London Games and has been linked with EPL club Queens Park Rangers.
But Eriksson hopes that his relationship with the former England captain may persuade Beckham to join Leicester instead -- if Victoria, Beckham's wife, can be convinced to move to the Midlands.
"I have already had that discussion with him," Eriksson said. "I spoke to him about Leicester. Beckham, he will never say no to me -- he says, 'Sven, we'll see, we'll see.' The big thing is what he wants to do when his contract finishes in LA. Will he want to go on playing?"
Beckham trained with Tottenham Hotspur during the Major League Soccer offseason and may prefer London as he prepares to give Olympic soccer his best shot and the event its best publicity.
"I guess most of the clubs in England will take him, as a good football player and for the image. We [at Leicester] will do it at once, of course. We will [also] give him a whistle and he can go out [on the training pitch] straightaway," Eriksson added.
Leicester, where Eriksson took charge 12 months ago, looks set to sustain a promotion challenge to the EPL and has kept four successive clean sheets during a seven-match unbeaten run.
