Burnley manager Sean Dyche was encouraged by Brian Stock's performance as a deep-lying playmaker during the goalless npower Championship draw with Middlesbrough.

Stock replaced knee-injury victim Ross Wallace in the Clarets starting line-up, necessitating a change of shape, and sat at the base of the midfield behind Chris McCann and Dean Marney.

The former Doncaster man's range of passing helped to keep Burnley on the front foot for the majority of the contest, particularly in the first half when full-back Kieran Trippier and winger Junior Stanislas posed a persistent threat down the right flank.

"You always try and put yourself in the other manager's shoes and we felt that they might come and bank up a little bit," Dyche said after an ultimately frustrating evening at Turf Moor.

"So we wanted to play and use that ammunition from a quarter-back situation where you can fire passes, and Stocky can do that.

"He did at times and Tripps got in some good positions, Junior got in some good positions, we managed to get good quality into the box but they defended well as a team and they made it very difficult."
