Belarus, Romania draw in Euro qualifying
MINSK, Belarus (AP)
Belarus and Romania drew 0-0 in their Group D qualifier for the 2012 European Championship on Tuesday as the host failed to follow up on its stunning win over France in the previous game.
Belarus, which scored a late winner to beat France 1-0 in its opener on Friday, has three points from two matches, while Romania has one.
The game was evenly balanced, with Sergei Kornilenko missing a clear chance to put Belarus in the lead in the eighth minute when he came one-on-one with Costel Pantilimon, but the striker shaved the crossbar from 10 meters (yards).
Bogdan Stancu had Romania's first clear opportunity in the 16th minute and one more six minutes later, forcing Yuri Zhevnov for saves.
Ciprian Marica, who came in for Ciprian Deac in the 83rd, had his header blocked by Zhevnov. Three minutes later he failed to beat the keeper from 10 meters.
Second-half substitute Razvan Cocis missed an empty net from inside the box with two minutes left in regulation - the visitors' last clear scoring opportunity.
Belarus will next play on the road at Luxembourg, while Romania will travel to France.
