Czech Republic striker Milan Baros has retired from international soccer.

The Czech team says Baros announced his decision to quit after the Czechs were eliminated from the European Championship following a 1-0 loss to Portugal in the quarterfinals Thursday.

The 30-year-old has been the second best Czech scorer of all time with 41 goals in 93 international games.

Baros was the best scorer at the 2004 Euros and also won the Champions League with Liverpool, but has been struggling on the national team in recent years and netted just once in the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign. He didn't score at the tournament and was repeatedly booed by fans.

Baros plays for Galatasaray.

Meanwhile Tomas Rosicky could follow Baros' lead.

The Arsenal midfielder was unable to play any part in the defeat to Portugal, stripping the Czechs of their skipper and most creative influence.

Rosicky admits another niggling knock, this time to his Achilles, means he must think long and hard about whether he will pull on the colours of his country again.

"I would love to continue, but on the other hand I'm not the youngest anymore and have had problems with my fitness," the 31-year-old told the Gunners' official website.

"I will take time to think about it. As I say, I would love to continue but I'm not stupid - I know I'm getting older and have to think about what is good for me."
