Gilardino hospitalized after collision

Italy forward Alberto Gilardino has been taken to a hospital as a precautionary measure after a collision in Fiorentina's 1-0 loss at Catania.

Gilardino knocked his head and chest into Catania goalkeeper Mariano Andujar in the 89th minute of Wednesday's match.

The ANSA news agency reported that Fiorentina coach Cesare Prandelli said the injury did not appear serious.
