American midfielder Maurice Edu has returned to action for Rangers for the first time since May, playing for the backup team in a 2-1 loss to Partick Thistle.

Edu was sidelined after damaging a knee ligament in Rangers' 3-0 victory over Dundee United on May 24, a victory that earned the team the Scottish league title.

The 23-year-old Californian, who had surgery June 4, played 80 minutes of Monday's game at Murray Park. Rangers manager Walter Smith may consider him for Saturday's Premier League game against Hibernian at Easter Road.

Edu played for the U.S. at the 2008 Olympics.
