The Russia football squad has worn T-shirts in support of Spartak Gogniev after the striker was attacked during a match.
FC Krasnodar captain Gogniev had his ribs and nose broken when he was beaten by men dressed in Chechen police uniform during Friday's match against Terek Grozny.
Terek is supported by Chechnya's Kremlin-backed leader Ramzan Kadyrov, whose iron-fisted rule has drawn international criticism.
The RIA Novost news agency said Wednesday that the 20 Russia squad members wore T-shirts during training with the message ''Spartak Gogniyev, we are with you!'' and ''We don't need football of this kind!''
Coach Vladimir Leonchenko was quoted as saying that his team ''came up with the initiative.''
