Borussia Dortmund got back to winning ways in the Bundesliga with a 3-1 victory at bottom-placed Augsburg, whose top-flight status is looking increasingly fragile.
Marco Reus put Dortmund in front in the eighth minute before two goals from Robert Lewandowski in the second half put them in the driving seat.
Sascha Molders grabbed a consolation but it was nothing more than that for Augsburg, who remain rooted to the foot of the table with just six points from 11 games.
Real Madrid on Tuesday, Augsburg on Saturday, but Dortmund did not differentiate as they surged forwards in search of an immediate opener at the Augsburg Arena.
Reus sent in a dangerous cross in the fifth minute which the hosts were only able to defend at the third attempt when Simon Jentzsch grasped Kevin Grosskreutz's shot.
Dortmund got the early goal they were looking for in the eighth minute when Reus put them in front. The Germany international curled a free-kick in off the woodwork, leaving Jentzsch no chance.
Augsburg responded like Real did on Tuesday and they almost levelled immediately, but Roman Weidenfeller kept Tobias Werner's header out.
Weidenfeller was kept busy in the Dortmund goal for the remainder of the first half as Augsburg continued their search for an equalizer with Torsten Oehrl going the closest to finding it.
Dortmund got another early goal in the second half with Lewandowski latching on to a long kick forwards from Weidenfeller, which was helped on its way by Mario Gotze, and he held off two defenders before showing his eye for goal.
Augsburg substitute Knowledge Musona hit the post just a minute after coming on for Werner and the Bavarians continued to believe in their chances of getting back into the game until Lewandowski struck again.
The Poland international started the move off, sending Reus away, and the Germany midfielder returned the favour to give Lewandowski the easiest of goals in the 70th minute.
Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp started making changes, bringing Lewandowski and Gotze off, and Augsburg responded by pulling a goal back.
Molders got on the end of Matthias Ostrzolek's cross to head in from six yards out as the Dortmund defence fell asleep.
Klopp did not seem too perturbed as he next brought Reus out of the action, and he did not have any reason to be either as the defending champions held on to victory.
