A 10-man Valencia team drew 1-1 at home against last season's finalist Bayern Munich on Tuesday, a result that sent both through to the knockout stage of the Champions League.
Valencia went down to 10 men in the 33rd minute after right back Antonio Barragan fouled David Alaba to receive a second yellow card.
Valencia midfielder Sofiane Feghouli made it 1-0 in the 77th minute with a bouncing shot into the net.
Bayern winger Thomas Mueller equalized from a loose ball in the penalty area that grazed Feghouli and went into the net in the 82nd minute.
''We put in a huge effort and did the best we could because they are a great team, so we are really very happy,'' said Feghouli.
Bayern and Valencia both have 10 points, four ahead of BATE Borisov and seven in front of Lille.
The Bundesliga leaders applied constant pressure during the opening minutes of the first half in front of more than 40,000 fans at Mestalla stadium.
Valencia goalkeeper Vicente Guaita blocked Dante's close-range shot from Toni Kroos' corner in the 18th minute, and he made another fine save from Bayern striker Claudio Pizzaro in the 40th.
Valencia appeared invigorated with one player less and began pressing forward in the second half, culminating with a powerful header from Roberto Soldado that forced a save form goalkeeper Manuel Neuer in the 53rd.
At the other end, Valencia defender Aly Cissokho was active in containing Bayern's attacks down the right flank.
Soldado beat the offside trap in the 61st and raced forward in a solo run, only to shoot over Neuer's crossbar. Guaita saved Mueller's shot from inside the penalty area three minutes later.
