Valencia, Malaga reach quarterfinals
MADRID (AP)
Valencia reached the quarterfinals of the Copa del Rey after goals by Tino Costa and Roberto Soldado gave it a 2-1 win against Osasuna on Tuesday, putting the club through 4-1 on aggregate.
Valencia led 2-0 from the first leg of the round-of-16 matchup, and midfielder Tino Costa put the team further ahead when he sent a free kick straight into the top of the net in the 34th minute, stranding goalkeeper Andres Fernandez.
Osasuna striker Joseba Llorente pulled one back with a long-range shot after a solo effort three minutes later, but headed just wide in the 47th after getting behind the Valencia defense.
Instead, Roberto Soldado struck low under Fernandez for Valencia's second in injury time.
Earlier, Malaga came from behind to win 4-1 against third-tier club Eibar, advancing 5-2 on aggregate.
The Primera Division and Champions League outfit trailed for over an hour after Ruben Arroyo's 12th-minute goal, only drawing level in the 74th minute through Diego Buonanotte.
Seba Fernandez and Francisco Portillo then put them ahead and, after Eibar had substitute Guille Roldan sent off, Buonanotte scored again in added time to wrap up a 5-2 aggregate success.
