Millonarios spot on for semifinals
BOGOTA, Colombia (AP)
Colombian club Millonarios reached the semifinals of the Copa Sudamericana with a 3-1 victory over Gremio of Brazil on Thursday thanks to an injury-time penalty from Watson Renteria.
The Bogota club advanced 3-2 on aggregate over two legs of the quarterfinals.
Renteria scored his first goal from a header in the 80th minute to give Millonarios a 2-1 lead, but the decider came with the penalty. Without it, Millonarios would have been eliminated on away goals.
Wilberto Cosme scored Millonarios' other goal in the 60th minute after defender Werley gave Gremio a 1-0 lead in the 12th.
Universidad Catolica of Chile, Sao Paulo of Brazil and Tigre of Argentina last week reached the semifinals of South America's No. 2 club competition. Tigre plays Millonarios and U Catolica faces Sao Paulo.
