Bobby Zamora will miss the next three months of the season after bottom-of-the-table QPR revealed the striker will have surgery on a hip injury.

The 31-year-old forward moved to Loftus Road in January from west London rivals Fulham and helped the Shepherd's Bush side retain their Premier League status.

QPR look set for another fight for survival this season, which has been made all the more difficult by news Zamora requires surgery on a hip injury sustained in training.

The England international has been struggling for a while with the hip complaint that worsened recently. Zamora is now awaiting a date for surgery that the Hoops reveal will keep him out until February.

"R's front-man Bobby Zamora is set for a period on the sidelines owing to injury," QPR said on their official website.

"The 31-year-old striker will undergo an exploratory operation following a recent hip injury sustained in training.

"The injury is likely to see Zamora sidelined for approximately three months."

The news is a huge blow for the beleaguered west London club, who prop up the Premier League after a miserable start to the campaign.

QPR have yet to win in 12 attempts this season and the calls for manager Mark Hughes to be replaced intensified after Saturday's embarrassing 3-1 defeat to fellow strugglers Southampton.

Zamora missed that game through the hip complaint that leaves him sidelined alongside former Fulham strike partner Andrew Johnson, who sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained in September.

Djibril Cisse remains QPR's only remaining fit out-and-out striker, with Jamie Mackie now tended to be played wide and Jay Bothroyd, Rob Hulse and DJ Campbell all out on loan.

Hughes will have some interesting juggling to do if he is to help QPR get back to winning ways with so few attacking options available.

The under-fire Welshman will be hoping to start a revival this weekend when his side travel to former club Manchester United.

It is a match that Hughes looks set to remain in charge for after the west Londoners announced on Wednesday he will be in attendance at the Friday press conference previewing the trip to Old Trafford.
