Snoop wants to buy stake in Celtic
Rap superstar Snoop Dogg (also known as Snoop Lion) is looking to get into the soccer game, telling a Scottish newspaper he wants to buy a stake in Glasgow Celtic.
Snoop told Scotland’s Daily Record this week that he had watched the Scottish powerhouses’ historic win over Barcelona and had taken a liking to the club.
“I see how passionate Celtic fans are about their team and I could see myself making an investment if any of the board wanted to sell,” Snoop said. “I haven’t really thought how much. I don’t need to run a soccer club but enough of a percentage to get me on the board so I can be heard.
Snoop Dogg, a multi-platinum artist and actor, is also a certified sports nut. He’s qualified football coach, manning the sidelines at his son’s youth team, and a friend and confidant of David Beckham. Snoop’s passion for the Bhoys dates back to at least 2005 when he was spotted wearing one of their jerseys at a concert.
“I want to bring a bit of Snoop to things,” he told the Daily Record. “I am passionate about my sport. The boxes at Celtic would never be the same once I have hosted a party there.”
There is one wrinkle: Snoop was once banned from even entering the UK after a series of drug and firearm offenses in the States and it is not known if he would pass the “fit and proper persons” test to own a stake in a Scottish Premier League side.
But one thing is certain, if he can strike a deal, then some say Celtic fans’ famous version of “You’ll Never Walk Alone” might be joined by another song on the terraces. “Gin & Juice” may be coming to Parkhead.
