Carlos Bianchi was named as the new coach of Boca Juniors on Monay, giving him a third stint in charge of the famous Buenos Aires club.

Club President Daniel Angelici announced the appointment of Bianchi, who replaces Julio Falcioni.

Falcioni resigned a week ago in a move he and the club said was by ''mutual consent.''

The 63-year-old Bianchi coached Boca in two previous stints - the last ending in 2004. He won the Copa Libertadores with Boca three times, and another time with fellow Buenos Aires club Velez Sarsfield.

''It's an immense joy that Carlos Bianchi, the winningest coach in our history, returns to Boca,'' Angelici said on the club's Twitter account.

Bianchi, known as ''The Viceroy,'' will be under pressure to match the success he had previously at Boca, which has a demanding fan base that expects a title every season.

Falcioni was hired two years ago and brought the club a league title and also the runner-up finish in last season's Copa Libertadores.

JAW-DROPPING STRIKES

Adriano and Falcao each scored incredible goals on Sunday. But which was better? Watch and decide.

Boca finished in sixth place in the just-completed Inicial tournament, the first half of Argentina's split season. Velez Sarsfield won the title with 41 points. Boca finished eight points behind and was in contention until the last two rounds of the season.

Reports suggest that Bianchi may try to convince midfielder Juan Roman Riquelme to return to the team. The popular playmaker left after the loss to Corinthians in the Copa Libertadores' final after a falling out with Falcioni.
