Pique, Shakira expecting first child
Gerard Pique and Shakira confirmed today that the rumors are true: the 35-year-old Colombian superstar and the 25-year-old Barcelona defender are expecting their first child.
In a post on her official website, the singer announced the cancellation of a festival gig due to her pregnancy.
“As some of you may know Gerard and I are very happy awaiting the arrival of our first baby,” Shakira posted at Shakira.com. “At this time we have decided to give priority to this unique moment in our lives and postpone all the promotional activities planned over the next few days.”
The pregnancy had been widely reported in the Spanish media, but this is the first official word from the couple.
The news was not all good today, however: Pique injured his left foot in Barcelona’s 3-2 win over Spartak Moscow today in Champions League play and will miss the next 2-3 weeks. That’s bad news for the Catalans as Pique joins Carlos Puyol on the sidelines for their hotly anticipated October 7th El Clasico clash against Real Madrid.
