Real Madrid begins the defense of its title against Valencia while Barcelona opens with Real Sociedad as the Spanish league fixtures released on Tuesday scheduled the first clasico for October.
Madrid, coming off its record 32nd title and first since 2008, welcomes Valencia to Santiago Bernabeu Stadium on Aug. 19, while Sociedad will play at Barcelona's Camp Nou in new coach Tito Vilanova's league debut since replacing Pep Guardiola.
The Spanish powerhouses' first league derby is at Barcelona on Oct. 7 with the return in the Bernabeu on March 3.
Other first-round games on Aug. 19 include: Athletic Bilbao vs. Real Betis; Sevilla vs. Getafe; Zaragoza vs. Valladolid; Levante vs. Atletico Madrid; Celta Vigo vs. Malaga; Mallorca vs. Espanyol; Rayo Vallecano vs. Granada; and Deportivo La Coruna vs. Osasuna.
