Flamengo has hired former South Africa coach Joel Santana to replace Vanderlei Luxemburgo, who was fired last week after disputes with club directors and players.

Santana was officially introduced by Brazil's most popular club on Tuesday, marking his return to the club he coached before leaving in 2008 to lead South Africa in its 2010 home World Cup.

Luxemburgo, a former Brazil and Real Madrid coach, was fired because he was reportedly at odds with club directors and the team's top star, two-time world player of the year Ronaldinho.

Santana left the command of Bahia last week and was replaced on Tuesday by former Brazil midfielder and coach Paulo Roberto Falcao, who hadn't coached since being fired by Internacional last year.
