Mexican clubs ban major sports tabloid

All the clubs in Mexico's football league have agreed to ban access to one of the country's most important sports newspapers.

An announcement posted on the website of the Mexican Football Federation Saturday says the clubs acted in solidarity with the Guadalajara team, whose owner has often denounced coverage by the tabloid ''Record.''

A club statement accuses the paper of ''a campaign of hate and abuses.'' It says all of the clubs agreed to ban the paper's representatives from their stadiums and other facilities.

The newspaper is owned by Grupo Notimusa, and company director Alejandro Gomez says in a column published Saturday that the action is ''simple, retrograde and inefficient'' and denies publishing personal material about football league officials.
