Humberto Suazo scored from the penalty spot in stoppage time to ensure honours were even in the first leg of the Clausura final as Monterrey and Santos Laguna drew 1-1.
Oribe Peralta's long-range strike put the visitors ahead in the 69th minute, but Monterrey were given the perfect chance to equalise when Suazo was fouled in the box by Felipe Baloy.
Suazo took the spot-kick himself and made no mistake.
Santos, who finished top of the Clausura table, will look to make the most of home advantage in Sunday's second leg.
