Midfielder Joel Lindpere has signed a new multi-year contract with the New York Red Bulls.

The MLS team announced the signing on Tuesday.

Lindpere was the team's 2010 most valuable player. He started a franchise-record 34 regular season games this past season, a franchise record.

Red Bulls general manager Erik Soler said the team wanted to reward Lindpere to recognize his efforts.

Lindpere had played in Norway before joining the Red Bulls in March 2010. He led the team with six assists in his first season, and had seven goals and seven assists this past season.
