Forward Kris Boyd, the Scottish Premier League's all-time leading scorer, is joining Major League Soccer's Portland Timbers.

Timbers general manager Gavin Wilkinson announced the signing of the Irvine, Scotland, native on Monday. Terms of the deal were not released.

Boyd will be added to the club's roster pending the receipt of his visa and the successful completion of a physical.

The 28-year-old Boyd has scored 164 goals in 296 appearances in the Scottish Premier League with clubs Kilmarnock FC (2000-05) and Rangers FC (2006-10). He is a four-time winner of that league's scoring title.

Boyd joins the Timbers as a designated player, meaning his salary doesn't fully count against the MLS salary cap.
