Frank Lampard is eager to play as much as possible, but admits he has not discussed his recent axing with Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas.

The England midfielder has been dropped to the bench for the Blues' last two fixtures and has started only two of their last five.

He remains an important member of the squad but, at the age of 33, he has been forced to adopt more of a supporting role this term.

Lampard is hoping he can convince Villas-Boas that he is still deserving of a regular starting berth, with his match-winning penalty against Manchester City on Monday doing his cause no harm, but admits he is yet to discuss his position with his Portuguese coach.

He said: "I want to play, it's as simple as that. Being 33 or not, I'm as fit as I've ever been. I've been in a good run of form and now I've not been playing.

"I haven't spoken to the manager, so I don't know why I'm not playing. Simple as that."

Lampard has netted eight times this season, making him Chelsea's joint-leading goalscorer, and he is hoping to be drafted back into the Blues' starting line-up for Saturday's trip to Wigan.

He added: "I want to play all the time. If I didn't, there wouldn't be any point turning up. So maybe there's a bit of frustration because of that.

"I'm always at my best when I'm playing regularly. I know I've got a lot to give.

"I just want to be on the pitch and let my football do the talking."
