John Terry will miss Chelsea's clash with Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
Terry is also likely to miss the match against Everton a week next Saturday with the knee problem which forced him to miss the 1-1 draw with Swansea in midweek.
Blues manager Andre Villas-Boas has also confirmed that Terry will continue as Chelsea skipper.
The defender has been stripped of the England captaincy until after his racism court trial but Villas-Boas will not make the same move with the Blues' armband.
He said: "It's really an FA decision. I have nothing to say about it.
"I don't agree with it. The statement from the FA was pretty clear on what was their decision-making.
"John will continue to be our captain. It (the trial) doesn't compromise on my decision-making.
"It obviously compromises on the FA's decision-making."
