LIVERPOOL, England (AP)

Everton has strengthened its scoring options by signing Croatia striker Nikica Jelavic from Rangers.

The 26-year-old Jelavic, who joins on a 4 1/2-year deal, will look to add a cutting edge to Everton's attack after scoring 36 goals in 55 matches for Rangers since joining from Rapid Vienna in August 2010.

Only Wigan has scored fewer goals in the Premier League this season than Everton, which eight points clear of the relegation zone in 14th place.

Jelavic is Everton's third signing of the January transfer window, after United States winger Landon Donovan joined on loan from Los Angeles Galaxy and midfielder Darron Gibson arrived from Manchester United.
