Jamaica snaps Mexico's winning run

Mexico lost a 19-game winning streak at Azteca stadium with a 0-0 draw against Jamaica on Wednesday in their first match of the final round of World Cup qualifying.
The Mexicans considered one of the favorites to qualify for Brazil 2014 from the North and Central American and the Caribbean have not drawn at Azteca since November 9, 1997, when Costa Rica drew them 3-3.
''I don*t know if this is our worst game, but it's the one that leaves me more upset, because it was a World Cup qualifier at home,'' said Mexico manager Jose Manuel De la Torre, who had a 12-0 record in official matches since taking over in December of 2010. ''Sometimes you win ugly, but today we did not do even that''.
Honduras now leads the final, six-team group with three points, while Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica and Jamaica share second place with one point each. The United States are last with no points after losing 2-1 to Honduras earlier Wednesday.
The top three teams earn automatic World Cup berths, while the fourth-placed teams playoff for another spot.
Jamaica's only World Cup appearance was at France in 1998.
''We knew that we could pull it off, we knew we can play,'' Jamaica assistant coach Alfredo Montesso said. ''Perhaps it*s a surprise for many, but not for us. Before this round, we were told that we had a 17 percent chance to qualify for the World Cup, I think we just improve those odds today.''
The Mexican team was booed heavily by the 40,000 fans at Azteca stadium who were disappointed with the draw.
''They have the right to say whatever they want because they wanted to see their team win, to play a good match and we did not deliver,'' said De la Torre.
