While his overall tournament wasn’t as impressive as his showing at last summer’s Confederations Cup, DeMerit surely boosted his value with his performance against Wayne Rooney and England. A free agent who can sign anywhere he wants this summer, DeMerit should be able to find another deal in England, though a move to the Premier League might be a bit ambitious.

Not many American fans would have pegged Bornstein to make this list, but his steady and impressive performances in his two World Cup starts sure caught the eye of potential suitors. He’s in the final year of his MLS contract and is a safe bet to move from MLS this winter, assuming a European club doesn’t buy him sooner.

Feilhaber didn’t start any matches, but every time he came in he provided a stabilizing presence in midfield. He didn’t have the best second half of the season for Denmark’s AGF Aarhus, but looked more like the creative contributor he was last summer at the Confederations Cup. He has bounced around quite a bit in Europe already, but with AGF Aarhus having been relegated, the club may not have a choice but to sell Feilhaber.

Though referee Koman Coulibaly stole his chance for goal-scoring glory, Edu still did enough during the tournament to come away with a higher price tag. The Rangers midfielder was composed, strong and steady and while he is more likely to take on a bigger role than be sold by Rangers, Edu served notice that he is a young player to watch.

In a tournament where goalkeepers were making mistakes left and right, Howard was a reliable and steady force in the back for the United States. He already had a reputation as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League, but his showing in South Africa is sure to draw some interest from bigger clubs looking to add stability in net.

He didn’t score a goal in the World Cup, but Altidore showed potential suitors a player who is learning quickly how to be an effective target striker. He’s still young, at 20, but he was a handful for opposing defenders, drawing dangerous free kicks and setting up some key goals for the United States. He is set to go back to Villarreal, where he could find a much bigger role if the Spanish club sells some other forwards as expected. Altidore could also make a return to England.

To some observers, Bradley was even more impressive this World Cup than Donovan. His unmatched work rate (he was among tournament leaders in distance covered), tenacity and ability to contribute to the attack when needed made him a valuable contributor for the United States. He seems destined to play in England’s top league – Barclays Premier League – and is a good bet to make a move from Germany’s Borussia Moenchegladbach this summer.

Landon Donovan may not have guided the United States to the World Cup quarterfinals, but he did do plenty to boost his own stock on the international market. Already a wanted player after his successful loan stint with English club Everton, Donovan has certainly played himself into an eight-figure transfer move this summer. Assuming he wants to leave and assuming MLS and the Los Angeles Galaxy are ready to sell.
