Golfers from around the world react to the news that their sport in joining the Olympics.

One thought about golf in the Olympics: Seems like a single 72-hole stroke-play event will decide the gold medalist in 2016, which to us only makes fencing look more attractive.

While we would still like to see college golf go to separate individual and team championship events, the current format of the men's NCAA Championship might work best for Olympic golf at the moment: 54-hole stroke-play qualifying after which the individual champion is crowned and eight teams advance to a match-play championship.

But really, what's stopping the Olympics from separate events?

Gymnastics hands out about 56,782 different medals over the two-week period.

Hosting a 72-hole stroke-play event at the beginning of the week and a 36-hole qualifying/16-team match-play bracket at the end of the week hardly seems like a difficult proposition, and give the event a chance to get a lot more players involved.

As of now we can only look forward to the IOC/WGC Championship at Brazil.
