Injured Noren drops out of Wales Open

Defending champion Alexander Noren has withdrawn from the Wales Open with a back injury after shooting a 10-over 81 in the first round.

The 29-year-old Noren had six bogeys, a double-bogey and a quadruple-bogey at Celtic Manor on Thursday.

Gusty conditions and tough pin positions have affected scoring, with clubhouse leader Lee Slattery on 4 under.

Noren qualified at Walton Heath on Monday for the U.S. Open at the Olympic Club from June 11 to 17. It it not clear whether the injury will rule him out.

Gary Boyd of England has also withdrawn after complaining of dizziness after his round of 87.
