Expert picks: Golfweek predicts Open winner

Tiger has never played Turnberry. Mickelson is missing his first major in more than 15 years. So who will win the 138th Open Championship? Our Golfweek experts give you their picks. NOTE: All "sleepers" are players ranked outside the top 50 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index.

Jeff Babineau

Winner: Tiger Woods. Here's the math: There have been two majors played this season and Tiger Woods has yet to add to that section of his trophy case. The man is hungry and there's another Claret Jug in his immediate future. Sleeper: Padraig Harrington. Any time you can pick a two-time defending champion as your "sleeper," the book says take him. Paddy has struggled much of the year but is coming off yet another Irish PGA victory. Maybe that will allow him to forget about the rest of his 2009 season.

Jim McCabe

Winner: Jim Furyk. Still of a perplexing nature is the fact that he missed five straight cuts in the British Open. He apparently figured it out, however, because he's been fourth, T-12, and T-5 the last three years. It's going to be windy and wet so it will be a challenge to drive it straight, which makes Furyk a great pick. Sleeper: Adam Scott. Hey, get him while he's cheap because Scott is unlikely to be languishing this low in the rankings much longer. After struggling earlier in the year, Scott played well at last week's Scottish Open.

Jeff Rude

Winner: Jim Furyk. He's in form and finishing in the top 10 every week. Turnberry is not a bombers' course. This is a strong, strong hunch. Sleeper: Vijay Singh. He's been showing signs of life lately and has made noise in past Opens.
