Roberts takes playoff at British

Compiled from Times wires SUNNINGDALE, England - Loren Roberts won his second Senior British Open on Sunday, beating Mark McNulty on the third hole of sudden death. Fred Funk also was in the playoff but was eliminated on the first extra hole when he made par as fellow American Roberts and McNulty birdied. The remaining pair parred the next playoff hole before Roberts won with par at the third. Third-round leader Greg Norman missed birdie chances at the first three holes and double bogeyed the 17th after driving into trees. Norman (71) finished tied for sixth, three behind the leaders. "My game felt good, no question about it. I just lack a lot of match practice," Norman said. Roberts, who won in 2006 at Turnberry, and Funk shot 3-under 67 in the round. McNulty shot 64. Roberts thought he was done on the second playoff hole after missing an 8-foot birdie, but McNulty drove into heavy rough on the next hole and bogeyed. The win earned Roberts a spot in next year's British Open at St. Andrews. "I'm looking forward to it already," he said. "I didn't give up mentally today. I didn't let the mental side get me down when I fell behind early." Tom Watson, who lost in a playoff at the British Open a week previously, had his best putting round of the tournament. His 3-under 67 left him tied for eighth. LPGA: Japan's Ai Miyazato won the Evian Masters with birdie on the first playoff hole to beat Sophie Gustafson in Evian-Les-Bains, France, for her first tour victory. Miyazato sank a 6-foot putt after Gustafson had missed her birdie from the edge of the green. Miyazato (69) and Gustafson (70) finished at 14-under 274. Seminole's Brittany Lincicome (70-284) tied for 27th. PGA: Jason Dufner held a one-stroke lead over Anthony Kim and Jerry Kelly after play was suspended in the third round of the water-logged Canadian Open in Ontario. The event will spill over into today and maybe Tuesday. Dufner, who led after two rounds at 13-under 131, moved to 14 under with 12 holes left in the third round. PARNEVIK SURGERY: Sweden's Jesper Parnevik said he could miss the rest of the season due to hip surgery set for this week.
