NEWPORT, Wales (AP)

A look at Sunday's play in the Ryder Cup at the 7,378-yard, par-71 Twenty Ten course at Celtic Manor:

Leading: Europe 9 1/2-6 1/2, after taking 5 1/2 of a possible six points from the two foursomes (alternate-shot) and four fourballs (better-ball) matches that were completed after being suspended a day earlier because of darkness.

Final-day format: 12 singles matches will be played Monday, each worth one point. The U.S. team is defending the cup and needs 14 points total to retain it; Europe needs 14 1/2.

Key pairings: Lee Westwood vs. Steve Stricker in the No. 1 slot; Martin Kaymer vs. Dustin Johnson at No. 4; Francesco Molinari vs. Tiger Woods at No. 8; Graeme McDowell vs. Hunter Mahan at No. 12.

Stars: Englishmen Westwood and Luke Donald, who handed Woods his worst loss ever in team competition in a 6 and 5 foursomes win. Woods and Stricker lost for the first time as a team.

Best supporting actors: The Molinari brothers, who cooled off the hot U.S. duo of Stewart Cink and Matt Kuchar by earning a halve at the final hole with a birdie.

Falling star: Phil Mickelson finished 0-3 in team competition. Playing in his eighth cup, he is tied for most appearances by a U.S. golfer and now has the most career losses - 17 - eclipsing Raymond Floyd.

Key stat: Westwood has gone nine straight foursomes matches without losing; Donald is 6-0 in the format.

Noteworthy: Woods and Westwood have played against each other in team competition in every Ryder Cup each played. Westwood has won six of those seven matches.

Quoteworthy: ''All this will be pointless if this isn't continued tomorrow.'' - European captain Colin Montgomerie.

Television: Monday, 4 a.m. (EDT) to conclusion, USA Network.
