Last week: Luke Donald won a duel for No. 1 with a playoff victory over Lee Westwood in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth. Donald, second behind Westwood entering the tournament, birdied the par-5 18th in the playoff, hitting his approach within 5 feet before Westwood's wedge shot spun into the water.
Notes: Last October at Celtic Manor, Europe won the Ryder Cup, beating the United States 14 1/2-13 1/2 when McDowell held off Hunter Mahan in the final singles match. ... McDowell is in the field along with Ryder Cup teammates Miguel Angel Jimenez, Ross Fisher and Peter Hanson and captain Colin Montgomerie. ... John Daly is making his second straight European Tour start. He withdrew during the second round at Wentworth because of a hip injury. ... The Italian Open is next week in Turin.

Last week: Colombia's Mariajo Uribe won the Brazil Cup, finishing with a 6-under 66 in rainy conditions for a one-stroke victory in the 36-hole exhibition event.
Notes: The tournament returned to the tour last year. First played in 1986, it folded in 2006 after the previous organizers accused then-US LPGA Tour commissioner Carolyn Bivens of providing three unsuitable dates for the 2007 event. Bivens resigned in July 2009 after a group of players wrote a letter to the tour's board of directors calling for her to quit. She was replaced by Michael Whan. ... Suzann Pettersen won the last official event, beating Cristie Kerr 1-up on May 22 in the Sybase Match Play Championship at Hamilton Farm. ... Michelle Wie has four top-10 finishes in six starts this year. ... Alexis Thompson received a sponsor exemption. The 16-year-old pro tied for 19th in the Mobile, Alabama, event after taking a share of the lead into the final round. ... The LPGA State Farm Classic is next week in Springfield, Illinois.

Last week: Tom Watson won the Senior PGA at Valhalla, blasting out of a bunker to 3 feet to set up a birdie on the first hole off a playoff with David Eger. The 61-year-old Watson became the oldest major winner since the senior tour was created in 1980.
Notes: Tom Lehman has three victories in eight tour starts this year. He tied for 22nd at Valhalla, closing with a 77. ... Price won the Toshiba Classic in March in California for his fourth Champions Tour title. ... The Greater Hickory Classic is next week at Rock Barn in Conover, North Carolina.
