It was a busy weekend in the world of sports — especially if you were Sergio Garcia’s pitching wedge on 17 at TPC Sawgrass.

In the NBA, LeBron took a seat but the Heat took command in Game 3 against the Bulls, while three other upset-minded underdogs made their case at home . On the diamond, some Yankee drama took center stage in Kansas City, the umpires were in the news again for all the wrong reasons and the Cubs locked down their first baseman of the future. Meanwhile, Matt Kenseth came out on top at Darlington, the NHL playoffs kicked into full gear and Titus Young, again, ended up on the wrong side of the law .

With so much going on, we don’t blame you if you didn’t catch everything, but we’ve got your back. Here is some of the other sports news you may have missed while you were celebrating Mother's Day weekend:

— Roger Staubach’s daughter won a spot on the Dallas City Council.

— Herschel Walker’s nephew won't follow in his uncle's footsteps. The Savannah, Ga., tight end committed to Clemson over offers from Vanderbilt and Ole Miss.

— Meanwhile, Georgia does have its sights set on a 15-year-old, 290-pound freshman offensive lineman named Hamm.

— Scholarship offers are flying in younger and younger these days, though, and before we know it, recruiting will be headed to junior highs .

— Jets fifth-round draft pick Oday Aboushi is in camp, trying to make it as a Palestinian-American in the NFL .

— Is Cowboys linebacker Brandon Magee the next Vontaze Burfict ?

— Super Bowl champ Ray Rice put on a free football clinic for 600 kids and parents in Baltimore.

— Michael Rosenband abandoned a lucrative career on Wall Street to turn around an inner-city high school baseball program in Baltimore.

— A Temple University rower nicknamed "Beast" returned to the water after being hit by car.

— Are we sure Tim Tebow could cut it with the Orlando Predators of the Arena League?

— When he's not a jamming jazz musician, John Pizzarelli is a die-hard New York Rangers fan .

— Onondaga Community College has won 70 straight lacrosse games — and five consecutive junior national championships.

— Brandon Williams' road to the NFL's Carolina Panthers has been a long and grinding one.

— A Seattle mom explained why she allows her 8-year-old to compete in roller derby .

— A 21-year-old University of Oregon tennis player died in a cliff-diving accident .
