Darnell Dockett Scouting Report

Although Dockett is clearly one of the most talented linemen in the draft, character issues and a poor work ethic have concerned team officials and his draft status remains unknown. In addition to legal troubles and multiple suspensions, Dockett has been called out for his ego and lack of effort. He also needs to add significant muscle mass in order to compete at the next level. On the other hand, he is one of the most accomplished interior linemen in recent memory and has dominated his position for four straight years. He was voted to the freshman All-American team in 2000 and made the All-ACC first team in his sophomore year. His production dropped slightly in his junior season, chiefly the result of heavy double-teaming. He finished strong in '03, however, earning ACC Defensive Player of the Year and third team All-American honors. He also extended his FSU record in career tackles for loss (64). Athletic and strong, Dockett clearly has the talent to succeed in the NFL, but it remains to be seen if he is willing to put in the time to realize his potential.
