Fantasy Football Chat with John Juhasz(12/08/2009)
2:56
FOX Fantasy:
What's up gang?! It's almost time for John Juhasz's weekly fantasy chat, so get your questions ready to deluge him for the next hour. He'll be getting to as many as possible in that time. Let's have some fun with this, as I know most of you are entering your playoffs this week!!

John Juhasz:
Hey, kids. Good to be here. Who's ready to rock their fantasy playoffs? Let the games begin.

FOX Fantasy:
Our first question comes from Greg, who's worried about his starting QB.........Hey John, what's your take on Matt Schaub playing this weekend? I've read he had the same issue with his shoulder last year and still played.

John Juhasz:
Hey, Greg. Yeah, Schaub played through some pain last week and re-entered the game after exiting. His stats certainly showed it. But you have to love his matchup with Seattle in Week 14. I haven't seen any reports indicate that he's out, but you should know more later in the week. If he plays, you have to stick with him.

FOX Fantasy:
Jimbo's next onboard, and he has a question about a rising star..........Robert Meachem, what's his value this week? Do you like his chances to continue his TD streak? How about yardage?
Tuesday December 8, 2009 3:04 FOX Fantasy
3:06
John Juhasz:
Put it this way - it's never a bad idea to start one of Drew Brees' top targets. Meachem has now scored at least one TD in five straight games and six of his last nine. Strangely, he only had two catches for 47 yards and no scores the last time these two teams met on Monday night in Week 8. But he's playing on another level since then while the Falcons D is giving up a ton of points and yards lately. Fantasy football is all about riding the hot hand, and Meachem is white-hot right now. Play him. I think he'll find the end zone yet again and probably deliver 60+ yards.

FOX Fantasy:
Everyone wants to know what RBs to start, including Steve.........John, I'm facing the No. 1 seed in the first round of the playoffs and can't make any mistakes. What two RBs do I start between Michael Turner (vs. NO), Knowshon Moreno (@IND), Correll Buckhalter (@IND) and Cadillac Williams (vs. NYJ)?
Tuesday December 8, 2009 3:07 FOX Fantasy
3:08
John Juhasz:
Steve, Turner is a must-play as long as he's healthy. He had a huge game against the Saints the last time, and you didn't draft the guy in the top three or four picks of your league so you could sit him when it matters the most. Plus, the Falcons would be wise to run the ball as much as possible and keep Drew Brees off the field if they know what's good for them.
Tuesday December 8, 2009 3:08 John Juhasz
3:09
John Juhasz:
Secondly, go with Knowshon for your second play. He's still the featured back in that offense, and his confidence has to be growing after his huge game last week. Buckhalter has disappointed more often than he's had a big game. Drop me a line in my feedback and let me know if you win.

FOX Fantasy:

We love the ladies here at Fantasy Chat, especially those who really need our help, like Portia!.......John, can you help a damsel in distress!?! Who do I start between Carson Palmer (@MIN) and David Garrard (vs. MIA) this week? And who's the better DST between Buffalo (@KC), Tennessee (vs. STL), Indy (vs. DEN) or Washington (@OAK)? You truly are my knight in shining armor!

Tuesday December 8, 2009 3:11 FOX Fantasy
3:13
John Juhasz:

Hey, Portia. I think Palmer is the more consistent play, although his recent production has worried me. He struggled in Oakland, against Cleveland and didn't really break out against the Lions last week. Going to Minnesota after facing those three teams will be like going from kindergarten to taking an advanced differential equations class. But Kurt Warner left him a nice blueprint for how to beat this secondary, and I'm just more comfortable with him over Garrard. As for your D, go with the Titans. They are facing an offense that will basically sink themselves and make multiple mistakes.

FOX Fantasy:
Joel's a satisfied customer........You've really helped me out the last couple weeks. My new dilemma: Pittsburgh (@CLE) or NYJ's (@TB) Defense? We get a bonus 10 pts for a shutout! Thanks!
Tuesday December 8, 2009 3:13 FOX Fantasy
3:15
John Juhasz:
Thanks for the props, Joel. I can't believe I'm about to recommend you pass on the Steelers, but I think I have to. They have struggled big-time lately, giving up 27 points to the Chiefs and three straight touchdown drives to the Raiders to close out last week's game, which should warrant some kind of fine from the league. And now they're facing a quarterback which is starting to gain some confidence - Brady Quinn has 300+ yards and three or more TDs in two of his last three games. The Jets have better potential to shut down Josh Freeman and company. Go with them.

FOX Fantasy:
We continue ladies day with Cathy, who has a legitimate QB concern.........Looks like Drew Brees will get me into our playoffs. I have Eli Manning as my backup. Am I gonna have to play him at some point with Brees possibly being benched late in the year? Do I play Eli, or do I take a chance and go pickup someone like Vince Young?

Are you gonna win your title this season?!
Yes
 ( 79% )
No
 ( 21% )

Tuesday December 8, 2009 3:21
3:21
John Juhasz:
Hi, Cathy. We touched on this a little last week, but no word on Brees getting benched yet. The Vikings losing in Arizona certainly helped the Saints cause for clinching homefield advantage throughout the playoffs, but I have to wonder how seriously Sean Payton will chase 16-0. I don't think he'll completely shut down Brees, which is fine since he's more than capable of doing plenty of damage in just 30 minutes of football. The good thing about Eli is the Giants are fighting for their playoff lives and he should be in the lineup from here on out. But VY has much better matchups over these final four games. I think I'd probably go with him over Eli.

FOX Fantasy:
As we say in the South, Joel's "innards" are giving him some problems........John, I can't believe I'm asking this, but do I start Frank Gore or Jamaal Charles this week?! It's amazing, but my gut is telling me Charles!
Tuesday December 8, 2009 3:21 FOX Fantasy
3:23
John Juhasz:
Your gut is right. Gore is just too inconsistent, and that's what prevents him from becoming an elite fantasy RB. He was completely shut down by the Seahawks last week, who will never be mistaken for Pittsburgh's steel curtain defense of the 1970s. Charles has been consistent, wants to keep the momentum going for his audition for the featured back role next year and has a better matchup than Gore. All arrows point to Charles. Go with him.
Tuesday December 8, 2009 3:23 John Juhasz
3:25
FOX Fantasy:
Patrick's worried about my Panthers and their RB situation........Is Jonathan Stewart (@NE) going to get the start again this week for Carolina? Would you start him ahead of either Frank Gore (vs. ARI) or Steven Jackson (@TEN)? And is Terrell Owens (@KC) a sit or start this weekend?
Tuesday December 8, 2009 3:25 FOX Fantasy
3:28
John Juhasz:
Stewart might start, but he's not going to get the full workload if DeAngelo Williams is even semi-capable of playing. We won't know WIlliams' status until later this week, but regardless, I wouldn't start any of the guys you listed ahead of Steven Jackson. S-Jax has scored a touchdown in four of his last five games and rushed for over 100 yards in five of his last six. There is no reason whatsoever to be sitting him in any league. And T.O. isn't necessarily a bad play this weekend, depending on who else you have. He should be good for somewhere in the ballpark of 80 yards and a score.
Tuesday December 8, 2009 3:28 John Juhasz
3:29
FOX Fantasy:

Matt's just happy to be alive........I just made it into the playoffs and now have a decision to make. Who has the better matchup between Mike Sims-Walker (vs. MIA) or Devone Bess (@JAX). The No. 8 seed needs your help!!

Tuesday December 8, 2009 3:29 FOX Fantasy
3:29
John Juhasz:
I'm always here for the eight seeds, Matt. Even if I missed that spot by just two points in one of my leagues this year. Not like I'm bitter about it or anything.
Tuesday December 8, 2009 3:29 John Juhasz
3:32
John Juhasz:
This isn't really an easy question, but I'd give the nod to Sims-Walker. Bess kind of flubbed his way through most of the season and caught his first TD pass of the year against New England. MSW has six TDs and roughly 250 more yards, give or take. Plus he has a more consistent QB throwing him the ball. Bess might go off for the second straight week, but MSW isn't one to disappoint his owners very often.
Tuesday December 8, 2009 3:32 John Juhasz
3:32
FOX Fantasy:
Roy needs RB help, like everyone.........Cedric Benson and Ryan Grant are set in stone, but I need a third between Justin Forsett (@HOU), Beanie Wells (@SF) and Mike Bell (@ATL).
Tuesday December 8, 2009 3:32 FOX Fantasy
3:35
John Juhasz:
One quick note  - you do have to go with Benson, but he doesn't exactly  have the easiest of matchups in Week 13. Don't be shocked if he doesn't even reach 60 rushing yards this week. Go with Forsett for your third choice. Yes, he was absolutely abysmal against San Francisco. But Bell was just as bad in Washington, and Wells hasn't scored or reached 30 rushing yards in two straight. If Seattle's coaching staff knows what's good for them, they'll stop fooling around with this ridiculous Julius Jones experiment and just let Forsett do what he does best.
Tuesday December 8, 2009 3:35 John Juhasz
3:35
FOX Fantasy:
Wayne has a tough WR decision to make.........I actually have to sit one of these guys: Santonio Holmes (@CLE), Percy Harvin (vs. CIN), Miles Austin (vs. SD) or Marques Colston (@ATL). Not an enviable position, eh?
Tuesday December 8, 2009 3:35 FOX Fantasy
3:39
John Juhasz:

On the contrary, Wayne. I think everyone who has been getting lousy production from their wideouts envies (and hates) you. I don't think you'll really go "wrong" benching any of those four, but my odd-man  out might be Holmes for one simple reason  - the weather. Some heavy snow flurries are expected in Cleveland on Thursday, which doesn't usually help the aerial attacks of anyone. Out of the four, he's the one who I'd pick to post the lowest stats. Good luck this week.

FOX Fantasy:
Lewis is a fan of the show obviously.........John, you da MAN!! My team's been killer all year, but my weakness has been the TE spot. Who do you like between Favre's red zone target Visanthe Shiancoe (vs. CIN) or Jermichael Finley (@CHI), coming off that huge game of his? Thanks!!
Tuesday December 8, 2009 3:39 FOX Fantasy

Could you play Drew Bree or Peyton Manning in Weeks 16 or 17 if they've already clinched home field?
Yes
 ( 36% )
No
 ( 64% )

Tuesday December 8, 2009 3:40
3:42
John Juhasz:
In a standard league, probably Shaincoe. He's just a more consistent option. Finley was a hot pickup after his big 128-yard, one-TD game against the Packers at home on Monday night in Week 4. He did next to nothing in every game after that unti last night. I'm not ready to immediately buy into him after just one big outing. Go with the Favre's top red zone guy. I think they'll take out some frustration from last week on the Bengals in a big way.
Tuesday December 8, 2009 3:42 John Juhasz
3:42
FOX Fantasy:
Our friend Teddy Pote has a quick one for us........Better waiver wire pickup, Devin Thomas or Louis Murphy?
Tuesday December 8, 2009 3:42 FOX Fantasy
3:44
John Juhasz:

And they play each other this week - how ironic. Thomas has the better matchup for Week 14, but Oakland has the better matchups for the rest of the season. If you're thinking long-term, go with Murphy. Bruce Gradkowski has actually brought some stability and success to Oakland's offense, and I think my head is going to explode at any second from having written that.

Tuesday December 8, 2009 3:44 John Juhasz

FOX Fantasy:
I'm sure many of you have the same problem David has right now.......What's wrong with Vincent Jackson? He carried me for weeks, but he's killing me lately! Should I bench him? Logic tells me not to, buuuuut..........
Tuesday December 8, 2009 3:45 FOX Fantasy
3:47
John Juhasz:
I'm not sure what gives. Going into hibernation during the home stretch of your contract year isn't the best way to audition for a mega-deal in 2010. The problem is this, David - who do you have on your bench (or waiver wire) who would be a better start than him right now? Probably no one. The reason Jackson hasn't produced in recent weeks is because a lot of Philip Rivers' throws have been going to Antonio Gates, who suddenly decided to have a career month. Just suck it up and keep V-Jax in there. You'll hate yourself if he goes for 140 yards and two scores the week after you bench him, and he's more than capable of doing so.
Tuesday December 8, 2009 3:47 John Juhasz
3:48
FOX Fantasy:
Tim the Teacher knows who to come to when he has a fantasy query........Hey John, loved your help the last few weeks! I have a PPR Flex problem now - T.J. Houshmandzadeh (@HOU), Steve Slaton (vs. SEA) or Beanie Wells (@SF)?
Tuesday December 8, 2009 3:48 FOX Fantasy
3:49
John Juhasz:
If you're in a PPR league, you almost always have to go with a WR over a RB, except in those rare cases where the RB's primary job is to catch passes out of the backfield (like your namesake "Tim" Hightower). Slaton's status for Week 14 is still up in the air, and the Cards throw the ball to Hightower on screens, not Wells. Go with Housh, even though he's been a huge disappointment this year.
Tuesday December 8, 2009 3:49 John Juhasz
3:50
FOX Fantasy:
Chase has been crushed by injuries lately.........John, I'm in big trouble. I have Michael Turner AND DeAngelo Williams. What are the chances either plays this week? If not, do I go with Shonn Greene (@TB) or Kevin Smith (@BAL), or do I need to find somebody on the wire?
Tuesday December 8, 2009 3:50 FOX Fantasy
3:53
John Juhasz:
It's only Tuesday, Chase, so we won't know about the statuses of either of the top two guys you listed until later in the week. As of today, I'd expect both Turner and Williams to suit up and play this week. Neither of their injuries seemed to be of the long-term variety. But if they can't, then I'd probably start Greene, but pick up another waiver wire option instead of trying to hope Kevin Smith breaks out of his season-long funk against one of the better run defenses he'll face.
Tuesday December 8, 2009 3:53 John Juhasz
3:54
FOX Fantasy:
Mark's fighting for a playoff berth.........Trying to be one of four teams to make the playoffs, but both of my starting RBs are out!! Which two of these should I be playing - Marshawn Lynch (@KC), Chris Brown (vs. SEA), Rock Cartwright (@OAK) or Julius Jones (@HOU). Ugly, I know.
Tuesday December 8, 2009 3:54 FOX Fantasy
3:56
John Juhasz:
Ugly, indeed. But Lynch might have to earn one of the spots. He looked like the Marshawn Lynch of old last week and gets to face a defense which gave up 37.8 miles worth of combined rushing yardage to Knowshon Moreno and Correll Buckhalter last week. After that, go with Rock Cartwright. Jason Campbell won't find a ton of success throwing the ball on the Raiders, which will force them to run a bit more. Your other two options are just too dicey for my liking.
Tuesday December 8, 2009 3:56 John Juhasz
3:56
FOX Fantasy:
And finally, our last question of the day comes from Scott.........Alex Smith's been playing well and has what appears to be a great matchup Monday night (vs. ARI). Would you start him over Donovan McNabb (@NYG)?
Tuesday December 8, 2009 3:56 FOX Fantasy
3:59
John Juhasz:
No, I'd go with McNabb this week. He's had two three-TD games this season, and one of them came when he faced the Giants earlier. Plus, New York had major probems stopping Tony Romo last week (three TDs and almost 400 passing yards). However, hang on to Smith. If your fantasy Super Bowl is in Week 16, he has the best matchup you could hope for - the Lions.
