Frankel's Magic Again as Spoken Fur Romps

"I had a feeling she'd run a good race and my guys have done a nice job with her," said winning trainer Bobby Frankel. "She broke real sharp and she ran well. It wasn't the toughest bunch of horses in the world, but she won nicely."
Ridden by Jerry Bailey, Spoken Fur, a 3-year-old gray or roan filly by Notebook, burst off the final turn to dust front-running Roar Emotion and pulled away to win by 5 1/4 lengths over favored Yell. The 8-5 public choice was trapped on the inside but ran on to defeat Final Round for the runner-up spot. The final time for 1 1/8-mile on a fast track was 1:50 2/5.
In giving Frankel his first win in the Mother Goose, Spoken Fur won her fourth consecutive race. Her last victory came in a $39,600 allowance event for trainer Austin Smith at Churchill Downs on May 21. She was subsequently purchased by Amerman and shipped to New York.
Having taken the first leg of the New York Triple Tiara, Frankel said he'll consider going on with the next race, the $500,000 Coaching Club American Oaks, to be contested at 12 furlongs at Belmont Park on July 19.
I'll talk to Jerry (Bailey) about it and see what he thinks about the distance. Right now, it looks good. I've got good owners who come up with the money (to buy horses). She's worth a lot more now than what we bought her for."
The final race of the series is the $750,000 Alabama (gr. I) at 1 1/4 mile on August 16 at Saratoga. There is a $2 million bonus to the owner of the filly who wins all three races.
"I had watched a few tapes of her," said winning rider Jerry Bailey of Spoken Fur. "It looked like her rider was taking her back off the pace so when we broke, I just let her relax. I was the beneficiary of a good trip. She has a tremendous turn of foot. I'm pretty impressed."
It was Bailey's second straight winning ride in the Mother Goose. He was aboard Nonsuch Bay last year.
Spoken Fur won for the fourth time in seven starts while earning $180,000, improving her career bankroll to $265,880.
The winner paid $11, $4.20 and $2.60. Yell, ridden by John Velazquez, returned $2.80 and $2.20. Final Round, with Edgar Prado aboard, paid $2.40 for the show. The $2 exacta was worth $32.80.
