Unprecedented Local TV Schedule
by FOXSports.com
FSN also is scheduled to televise four Tigers spring training games this March.
The regular season telecast schedule begins with both FSN and FOX 2 carrying the April 2 Opening Day festivities as the Tigers host the Toronto Blue Jays. The game is being simulcast so that all television viewers in metro Detroit can watch as the Tigers make their debut as defending American League champion. Both outlets plan extensive pre- and postgame Opening Day coverage.
FSN Detroit, entering its 10th season of Tigers coverage, will produce all games airing on FSN and FOX 2 with the Emmy-winning announcing team of play-by-play man Mario Impemba (sixth season) and analyst Rod Allen (fifth).
On three April dates when FSN Detroit already has a Red Wings or Pistons game scheduled, the Tigers will be televised on FSN PLUS, a new alternate channel to be made available to customers of most cable and satellite providers in the region. More FSN PLUS telecasts could be added in April and May if Tigers games coincide with Red Wings and Pistons playoff dates. The list of cable and satellite providers carrying FSN PLUS and their respective channel assignments will be announced at a later date.
Approximately 60 telecasts -- mostly home games will be produced in high definition and televised on FSN HD, available in Southeastern Michigan and some other parts of the region for consumers who subscribe to high definition service provided by Comcast, Bright House Networks, WOW! and DIRECTV. The schedule of Tigers games in HD will be finalized at a later date.
FSN Detroit, a three-time Emmy winner for its Tigers coverage, has steadily increased the number of telecasts throughout its partnership with the team, starting with 85 games in 1998, growing to 100 games from 1999-2004, 110 in 2005, and 112 during the team's league championship season in 2006.
"FSN Detroit, the Tigers and WJBK all came together to serve Tigers fans in this spectacular way," said Greg Hammaren, Vice President/General Manager, FSN Detroit. "We're thrilled with what our unique partnership is able to deliver this year."
Outside of the Opening Day simulcast, the remaining 17 games slated for WJBK FOX 2 are weekend dates (3 Saturday nights, 14 Sunday afternoons). A network of over-the-air affiliates is being lined up throughout Michigan and the Toledo area to carry the package of games airing on WJBK.
WJBK, which also televised the team from 1953-74, will carry an additional eight Tigers games this season as part of the FOX SATURDAY BASEBALL GAME OF THE WEEK.
"Partnering with FSN and the Tigers to bring 26 over-the-air games back to FOX 2 is terrific," said Jeff Murri, Vice President/General Manager, WJBK-TV. "We have a world-class team and now fans will have more opportunities than ever to see them play."
Fox-owned entities account for 159 of the 161 Tigers games scheduled to be televised. Two other games have been earmarked for ESPN's Sunday night package. Only one Tigers game this season – Sat. April 7 at Kansas City – is not available to be televised because it falls within FOX's national exclusive time window.
"The growth of our television partnership has been tremendous, but the real winners are Tigers fans," said Duane McLean, Senior Vice President of Business Operations, Detroit Tigers. "The number of games being televised in 2007 will allow fans to follow the team every day and build on the momentum and enthusiasm created by our trip to the World Series last season."
FSN Detroit debuts a brand new pre- and postgame show this season – TIGERS LIVE! – originating from the ballpark and FSN studios.
FSN Detroit also is scheduling a "36-Inning Marathon" of Tigers programming running from 12:00 PM on Sunday, April 1 to 11:59 PM on Monday, April 2. Included will be the PLAY IT AGAIN, FSN replays of all seven victories in the 2006 ALDS and ALCS; repeats of FSN's Tigers-related SPOTLIGHT episodes (Jim Leyland, Ivan Rodriquez, Kenny Rogers, Curtis Granderson); the debut of a new SPOTLIGHT episode on President/General Manager Dave Dombrowski; and the premiere of the one-hour TIGERS SEASON PREVIEW. The 36-Inning Marathon includes live coverage of the April 2 season opener (plus a prime-time replay), as well as complete pre- and post-game coverage.
An additional five new episodes of SPOTLIGHT featuring Tigers players are being planned, with FSN running one per month throughout the 2007 season. And, FSN profiles the team on-and- off the field with its weekly Tigers magazine-style show, airing Saturdays at 11:30 AM starting April 7.
"FSN's local perspective, our expertise and our unique access combine to give Tigers fans unparalleled coverage of this incredibly popular team before, during and after the game as well as before, during and after the season," Hammaren said.
